Note: I started out writing Digimon fanfiction using the English-version names for the characters. I transitioned over several fanfics, first moving to the conceit of the English names being nicknames for the Japanese names, then to totally using Japanese names. For some, it's less of an issue (Mimi and Joe/Jyou, for instance), but with others (Miyako/Yolei) this is kind of a big deal. Rather than go back and alter anything, I've decided to indicate on the "characters" line which name/spelling is being used. Also, I think the kids all looked and acted older than the official ages given, so that's how I wrote them. And, finally, I used the occasional Japanese word. If you're into the fandom you're likely to be familiar with them, but if you get lost, help yourself to Google Translate (copy and paste, then click on "Did you mean?").
Rating: PG (Digimon battle) Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 1,854 Progress: complete Characters: Tai, Sora, the collected DigiDestined/their Digimon Summary: Season One. I've written stories about characters from books/movies/etc for as long as I've been writing stories (ie, since I was about four or five), but this was the first fanfic that I wrote after finding out that other people with actual writing skills did that sort of thing, and shared them on the internet. I guess that means technically Digimon is my first real fandom. The story here is pretty simple; I hadn't seen the whole series yet and didn't want to mess anything up. Tai and Sora are nudged in the right direction by an evil Digimon.
Rating: PG Chapters: 6 Word Count: 30,348 Progress: complete Characters: the collected DigiDestined/their Digimon, major original characters Summary: Season One. Kacie Kensingten, a 14-year-old girl from Chicago, discovers she is DigiDestined, and finds herself batting the evil Ferodramon with the rest of the kids, all the while falling hard for one certain blond-haired loner... In other words, this is basically six chapters of self-insertion/wish fufillment. I was an International before the show made them canon! :-p Also, Katina/her digimon are not mine. They were created by my best friend, Brandy, and I've tried searching FFN for the story involving them, Izzy's First Crush, but it's long since been scrubbed from the internet. What you need to know about Katina is this: her parents traveled the world and she's lived many places, her brother was abusive, it turned out that she was the ninth DigiDestined, and she has now been effectively adopted into Izzy's family. Everything else mentioned in the story can be grasped through context, I think.
Rating: PG-13 (violence, swearing) Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 9,996 Progress: complete Characters: Matt, Mr. Ishida, Mrs. Takaishi, T.K., major original character Summary: Season One. A sequel of sorts--more like an ending coda, except at the time I thought I'd be writing more--to The Girl In the Denim Jacket. It's a songfic to As Long As You Love Me, by the Backstreet Boys, which I don't own. Kacie helps Matt realize that he doesn't have to take his father's abuse. Note: It was a common assumption/fanon at the time that Matt's father was abusive, and it wasn't until long after this was written/originally posted that I got to watch the later half of the season and see that there wasn't really grounds for that--but if you can accept the presence of another DigiDestined, I figured you're willing to go along with that, too.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 4,257 Progress: complete Characters: Joe, Mimi, Matt Summary: Season One. Mimi and Matt have been going out for a while, but now that they're together, it's obvious that Joe likes Mimi. Things come to a head when Matt goes away for the weekend and Joe and Mimi end up out with a group of friends...but Mimi will have to make a hard decision.
Rating: PG Chapters: 2 Word Count: 11,757 Progress: complete Characters: Mimi, Joe, Matt, Sora, Jim, Michael Summary: Chapter One: Post-Season One. Mimi and Joe both like each other, but neither realizes the other feels the same way. When a Spring Dance comes up, Joe tries a scheme to get close to Mimi, but it backfires...or does it? (Note: I don't own the song It's Tearin' Up My Heart by *NSYNC, but it fit well. Go watch that video, it might be the most hilarious thing you do all day. Don't judge, I was about fifteen when I wrote this! This isn't a songfic, but the song is sung in the fic, if that makes sense.) Chapter Two: Season Two. A few years later, Mimi moves to New York City. With technology, leaving behind her friends in Japan doesn't seem so bad, until Joe decides that a long-distance relationship isn't fair to her. (Note: When I wrote this, I didn't know that D-Terminals came from the DigiWorld. For the sake of the story, the older kids all got theirs from Mimi and the new kids got theirs from the DigiWorld.)
Rating: PG Chapters: 3 Word Count: 7,245 Progress: complete Characters: Kari, Davis, Sora, T.K., Jun, Matt Summary: Season Two. Kari is tired of Davis pestering her for a date, so she and Sora come up with a scheme to get him to leave her alone. Trouble is, Kari's got a habit of underestimating Davis, and things fall apart when he catches on--and Kari realizes she's only been deceiving herself.
Rating: PG Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 5,614 Progress: complete Characters: Hikari, Daisuke, Takeru, Taichi Summary: Post-Season Two. Shortly after the defeat of MaloMyotismon, Daisuke and Hikari decide to check on things in the DigiWorld, but a snowstorm strands them overnight, giving Hikari cause to reevaluate.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 5,691 Progress: complete Characters: Iori, Miyako, Ken, Mrs. Hida, Grandpa Hida, major original character Summary: Post-Season Two. Iori runs into an old acquaintance and kindles their friendship, but everyone's teasing makes him wonder if she thinks it's something more. "Mariko" appeared in the series one time, if you read you'll see where, but she was not given a name, so her fleshed-out characterization is my own creation.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 671 Progress: complete Characters: Ken, Miyako Summary: Post-Season Two. Miyako sends Ken a letter. (I have to say: when this was posted on FFN, I loved the reviews that followed the form of the letter!)
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 2,330 Progress: complete Characters: Sora, Tai, Matt Summary: Season Two. This takes place directly after the episode "A Very Digi Christmas." Sora's gift of cookies for Matt were not as well-received as she'd hoped, but Tai makes her feel better.
Rating: G Chapters: 2 Word Count: 5,445 Progress: complete Characters: all the DigiDestined Summary: Chapter One is pre-Season One, Chapter Two is between the first two seasons. Just a short set of vignettes exploring how everyone knew each other before they got chosen to save the world. This is my personal headcanon as far as when everyone met and how close they were.
Rating: PG (kissing) Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 1,803 Progress: complete Characters: Kari, Davis, Joe, T.K. Summary: Post-Season Two. Kari tells the story of her bittersweet summer/rebound romance.
Rating: PG Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 6,758 Progress: complete Characters: Hikari, Jyou, Takeru Summary: Post-Season Two. Hikari has to take a college class in Olde English, and finds a study partner in Jyou--but he ends up helping her with so much more. A million-and-a-half years ago I held a review contest on FFN, where I offered to write stories of people's choosing. I picked about six winners, but only had three get back in touch with me. A user by the name of Carbon-Based Biped had given me my 100th review, and having read How I Spent My Summer, asked me to write a story where the characters were a bit older and Hikari and Jyou actually stayed together. This was the result.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 7,080 Progress: complete Characters: Daisuke, Hikari, Ken, Jun Summary: Post-Season Two. Jun Motomiya just wants her little brother to be happy, so she puts her analytical skills to good use and ropes Ken into a scheme to help Daisuke get past himself. A million-and-a-half years ago I held a review contest on FFN, where I
offered to write stories of people's choosing. I picked about six
winners, but only had three get back in touch with me. A user by the
name of Dyani won Best Review, and asked for a Daikari, with more Jun on the side (at the time, it was really hard to find anyone saying anything positive about either of the Motomiyas--I was one of the few).
Rating: PG-13 (mild swearing in English and Japanese, sexual references, violence) Chapters: Sixteen Word Count: 53,352 Progress: complete Characters: Ken/Digimon Kaiser, Yolei, Kari, Davis, T.K., Cody, their Digimon, other minor characters Summary: Post-Season Two/Alternate-Universe Season Two. What if the second team of DigiDestined had lost to Kimeramon and the Digimon Kaiser, and he kept them as prisoners? Six years later, after giving up all hope, the DigiDestined are stunned when the Kaiser suddenly becomes curious about them...one of them in particular. This is my crowning achievement of Digimon fiction. This is the longest thing I've written myself (to date) and I think probably the most cleverly-plotted. Not to brag or anything, but I'm really proud of this. Also, I don't own the song quoted at the beginning of the first chapter, Right Kind of Wrong by LeAnn Rimes. I just thought it fit so well--it very nearly became a songfic.
Rating: PG-13 (veiled sexual references, medical injuries) Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 9,623 Progress: complete Characters: Takeru, Hikari, Daisuke, minor original characters Summary: Post-Season Two. After five happy years of marriage, Hikari suddenly tells Takeru she wants a divorce, even though he loves her more than ever. This is one of the darker things I've written. If I was writing this now, it'd be longer, because what happens at the end would be a complication rather than the deus-ex-machina.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 2,520 Progress: complete Characters: Takeru, Hikari, Daisuke Summary: Post-Season Two. Songfic for You Look So Good In Love by George Strait. (Good song, terrible video.) Takeru sees Hikari and Daisuke together at Taichi and Sora's wedding and realizes the mistake he made in ever letting her go. Bittersweet at best. Briefly references Kacie from The Girl In the Denim Jacket and Mariko from Growing Up, but there's no real interaction with them.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 5,134 Progress: complete Characters: Rika, Mrs. Makino, assorted Tamers Summary: Season Three. Rika and her mother have never seen eye-to-eye, but neither one has ever put much effort into it.
Rating: G Chapters: one-shot Word Count: 1,486 Progress: complete Characters: Takato, Juri Summary: Season Three. This isn't so much how "Such Sweet Sorrow" should have ended, so much as filling in the gaps it left. Takato worked up the nerve to admit to Juri how he felt about her one time, but it turned out to be a digital double. Now that the real Juri is back, he has something to tell her...
Rating: G Chapters: 3 Word Count: 11,715 Progress: complete Characters: All DigiDestined Summary: All seasons. This is pretty much just a series of vignettes in the same vein as "And So It Was...Before It Began," only this time it covers three separate Valentine's Days in the lives of the DigiDestined. There's one chapter for each season. And in case you didn't know, in Japan, on Valentine's Day, girls give chocolate to the guys. Guys have White Day on March 14th to reciprocate.
